Getting started
How do I open a PDF?
Double-click a PDF if NonaPDF is your default app, use Open (Ctrl+O), or drag a PDF onto the window. Each PDF opens in its own tab, up to 10 per window.
How do I make NonaPDF my default PDF app?
Choose File → Make NonaPDF Your Default PDF App. Windows opens its settings for NonaPDF; click Set default. Windows doesn’t let apps change this by themselves, so you always stay in control. You can change it back in the same place.
Where are the editing tools?
NonaPDF opens as a clean reader. Press Edit (or F2) to show the tools, and Done to hide them again.
Editing
How do I change text?
Press Edit, choose Edit text, click the line you want to change and type. Press Enter to apply or Esc to cancel. Use Add text to place new text anywhere.
How does NonaPDF match fonts?
It tries, in order: the original font stored inside the PDF; the same font if it’s installed on your PC (press Use my PC’s fonts once to allow this); then a free look-alike font. Many common paid fonts have free “twins” with exactly the same letter widths, so your edit fits the space. You can also pick from suggested fonts or search over 2,000 free fonts.
Why does my edit look slightly different from the original?
PDFs often only contain the letters they actually use. If you type a letter that isn’t stored in the PDF, NonaPDF uses the closest free match for that line. Using the same font from your PC usually gives an exact match.
Can I edit scanned documents?
Scanned pages are pictures of text, so there’s no text to change. You can still add new text, comments and redactions on top.
Comments
How do I add comments?
Press Edit, then choose Note (click to place a sticky note), or Highlight, Underline or Strike (drag across text). Click any comment to type a note, reply, change its colour or delete it. Comments at the top lists them all.
Will other people see my comments?
Yes. Comments are saved in the standard PDF way, so they appear in other PDF apps too. Your comments show your name; change it with change in the comments panel.
Unlock, redact and protect
My bank statement says it can’t be edited. What do I do?
Just open it in NonaPDF. PDFs that are only restricted from editing unlock automatically when they open. If a PDF needs a password to open, you’ll be asked for it once. Only unlock documents that belong to you or that you’re allowed to change.
How do I hide private information?
Press Edit, choose Redact, then drag a box over anything or click a line of text. When you save, those pages are rebuilt so the hidden content is permanently removed. Text on redacted pages can’t be selected afterwards. Check the saved copy before you share it.
Is covering text with a box the same as redacting?
No. Editing text covers the old text, but the original can still be inside the file. To remove information for good, always use Redact.
How do I password-protect a PDF?
Choose Protect in the editing tools (or File → Protect with Password). Set a password, choose what people can do once it’s open, and save a protected copy. Keep the password safe: it can’t be recovered if it’s lost.
Pages
How do I reorder, rotate or delete pages, or combine PDFs?
Press Edit → Organise pages. Drag pages to reorder them, use the rotate and delete buttons, and use Add PDF (or drop files in) to combine documents. Press Done, then Save.
Saving, printing and updates
Does NonaPDF change my original file?
No. Save always lets you choose where to save a copy, and suggests a name ending in “-edited”.
How do updates work?
NonaPDF checks for new versions shortly after it starts and every few hours. Updates download in the background and you choose when to restart. Use Help → Check for Updates to check now, or untick Check for Updates Automatically to turn it off.
Does NonaPDF need the internet?
No. Reading and editing work offline. The internet is only used to check for updates and, occasionally, to download a free font that isn’t built in.
